Senior Data Engineer - Healthcare

Transform healthcare data infrastructure as part of our Aquila platform team. You'll build the data backbone that enables the CDC Health Data Trust and Rural Health Transformation initiatives, processing data for 160M+ US citizens. Work with cutting-edge healthcare standards (HL7, FHIR, OMOP) to solve the fragmentation crisis plaguing the $5.6T healthcare industry.
Key Responsibilities
- •Build and maintain ETL pipelines processing complex HL7 v2/v3 and FHIR messages at scale
- •Develop data normalization engines achieving 80-90% accuracy from unstructured healthcare data
- •Design and implement OMOP Common Data Model transformations for clinical research
- •Create data quality monitoring and validation frameworks for PHI/PII data
- •Collaborate with state health departments and CDC on data integration requirements
- •Optimize data processing for 5,000-50,000 messages per second throughput
- •Ensure HIPAA compliance and implement privacy-preserving de-identification techniques
Required Qualifications
- •5+ years of data engineering experience with healthcare data systems
- •Strong proficiency in Python and SQL with big data technologies (Spark, Airflow)
- •Deep knowledge of healthcare data standards: HL7 (v2, v3, FHIR), OMOP, or CCD/CCR
- •Experience with EMR/EHR systems integration (Epic, Cerner, Meditech, etc.)
- •Understanding of HIPAA, PHI handling, and healthcare data privacy regulations
- •Proven track record building production data pipelines at scale
- •Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Health Informatics, or related field
Preferred Qualifications
- •Experience with Health Information Exchanges (HIEs) or state health departments
- •Knowledge of clinical terminologies (ICD-10, SNOMED CT, LOINC, RxNorm)
- •Familiarity with CDC data reporting requirements and public health informatics
- •Experience with de-identification frameworks and privacy-preserving analytics
- •Previous work on multi-state healthcare initiatives
- •Master's degree in Health Informatics or related field
